Data Collection
Key tools and functions
The key tools in the Platform are located in the Data Manager unit, the Survey unit and in the Accounting unit. We can advise you on the methods most suitable for your solution.
Data collection framework
For environmental data the Platform records data according to the framework provided by Greenhouse Gas Protocol, and for ESG various frameworks are used like Nasdaq reporting guide, GRI and SDG among others. The main methods for data collection are:
Klappir API connection for data recording
If you want activity data in high frequency, your suppliers can build an connection to Klappir API framework. By such a connection you get the data as a time-serie with high frequency, accuracy and transparency from your supplier. If your supplier has already Klappir account and a API connection to the Platform you can directly use that connection that is already built. When you build your value chain under the Value Chain Unit you can easily see what suppliers are already providing API connections. If a supplier has an API you can through the Platform send your supplier direct message and ask for connection. The service providers most often use a specific API key they ask you to use to open for data sharing.
Klappir Import tool for data upload
You can import data files into the Platform to create or update your data. When importing data to the Platform you can use following two methods:
Import of activity data This import tool helps you and/or your supplier to import a large set of data into your Platform account. The import framework is well defined and standardized for a number of Scopes and Categories. When the data have been uploaded, the platform gives each activity value of carbon footprint in (CO2e). To enable upload of data from supplier, each supplier gets his own Klappir account for data upload. The supplier/partner Klappir account is aligned to individual suppliers by Klappir. Once we have aligned and connected the supplier/partner account to your Klappir account, importing data is a straightforward task and data can be uploaded whenever needed.
Bulk upload of pre-calculated data Where you do not have activity data, this feature helps you to upload extended amounts of data into your account. The data is prepared as an activity data or sum of activity data and the carbon footprint (CO2e) is linked directly to the data before upload. The carbon footprint is not in the Platform and therefore not validated by Klappir.
Klappir Surveys for data upload and rating
The Surveys are different from the import function as you send out invitations to your value chain and ask various suppliers and partners to transfer data on their activity to your Klappir account. In Survey you have the following modules:
SUPPLIER Assessment This unique module is the right tool to help you to connect to your partners and suppliers. The Platform gives you standard frameworks for questionnaires to send. You can send surveys to all partners in your value chain and ask them to share their own sustainability data with you. They answer your survey through their Klappir account by opening a connection from their account to your Klappir account. The module gives the supplier rating score based on supplier sustainability. By this you get a view on your suppliers/partners status regarding sustainability and it´s influence on your value chains sustainability status. At the same time you enable data sharing between your Klappir account and your supplier accounts.
INVESTMENT Assessment To record data on Scope 3, Category 15 you use this module and calculate your carbon emissions. In this module the methodology is based on “Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF)”. The module rates the partners on the basis of the quality of the data they provide. This is an effective tool that gives you the possibility to connect to your partners accounts and invite them to provide the data you need for your own carbon accounting. The module gives you the carbon emissions and score on the quality of the data they provide.
ESG Assessment To rate your partners in your value chain this module gives you the possibility to get your partners ESG data into your Klappir account. On the basis of the received data the module calculates the sustainability score of your supplier/partner. In the module you also have the possibility to adjust the weight of individual data in the overall score. By that you can both see the score calculated as standard score and the new score calculated on the basis of your focus. Your partner that creates his sustainability statement in his Klappir account can effortlessly stream the data to your Klappir account.
COMMUTE Assessment To get relatively solid data on your employee commute you can use the Klappir commute survey. The survey is sent to the employees as many times as you want. The Platform has numbers on carbon footprint on various types of cars and transport methods. On bases of the answers the overall carbon emission is calculated and inserted into Scope 3, Category 7 (employee commute). The outcome is inserted into the Platform as a bulk upload.
Klappir - direct import to Accounting
If you are not using the above mentioned modules you can manually import data under your work on your sustainability statement. This import of data is carried out in the Accounting module where you can insert the data into the accounting form. Many use this framework to import data on Social (S) and Governance (G) performance.
The data recording methods
Emissions accounting refers to the processes of activity accounting and converting activity data into carbon emissions generated by activity or assets over time. For ease of accounting, the emissions are usually converted to and expressed as carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2 e). The accounting of carbon emissions provides information on the direct and indirect emissions that occur throughout value chains as a result of organizational and business activities and boundaries.
The Klappir Data Recording methods are:
- API recording
- Import activity data
- Bulk Upload
- Survey
- Insert
You are not bound to one method only to collect and process your data for various categories - you can use the different methods in the Platform for various scenarios.
