Brimborg was founded in 1964, and is now one of the leading car importers and dealers in Iceland. The company represents five brands (Ford, Volvo Cars, Citroën, Mazda, and Peugeot), and is the importer for Nokian Tyres in Iceland. Brimborg also imports and deals with Volvo Trucks, Volvo Bus, Volvo Construction Machines, and Volvo Penta marine engines. The company employs about 300 people, and operates seven authorized auto and tire repair shops for their franchised car brands. Brimborg is the franchisee of Thrifty Car Rental and Dollar Rent a Car, two global brands which are part of the Hertz group.


Brimborg faced three interwoven challenges.

Firstly, the company needed a tool that offered an overview of the location of its car fleet. The fleet consisted of 40 vehicles, used to deliver parts to auto and tire shops in different regions of Iceland.

Secondly, Brimborg needed a better overview of more than 1000 rental cars operated by the company. The main problem was off-road driving by tourists, which sometimes resulted in the travelers getting lost or stranded. By keeping track of their exact location, it would become much easier to find and assist the tourists.

Thirdly, a substantial amount of long-term rental customers wanted to outsource its fleet management to Brimborg. At the time, however, there was no tool in place to offer this service.


Brimborg teamed up with Klappir to find a solution to all of the problems mentioned above.

The collaboration resulted in a solution that tracks, in real time, the location of all vehicles, as well as monitoring trips, speed, mileage, fuel consumption, vehicle conditions, service needs, and more. Brimborg runs its operation on a Dynamics AX ERP system, and has now created, in collaboration with Klappir, an interface that allows data to continuously flow between their system and the Klappir solution. 

The software solution allows the company to manage the environmental aspects of its business as well as the operational ones. The data from the service car fleet should lead to less fuel use and fewer inspections, and improve efficiency by enhancing planning and time management.

The software also provides valuable information from the rental fleet, which helps to manage and improve maintenance and repairs, and to increase the efficiency of post rental inspections, as the monitoring information indicates the condition of each car and and the type of road on which it has been driven. Finally, the software offers the customers additional services such as Road Side Assistance, which is helpful in the case of unexpected incidents, as they can guide the driver to nearby services and provide valuable information on weather and road safety.
