Best Practice Sharing Seminar — Environmental and Climate Issues

Wednesday,  9 December, Klappir is hosting a seminar on environmental and climate issues in collaboration with Nasdaq and Origo. The aim of these sessions are for sharing and disseminating practical information and best practices about how companies can systematically reduce environmental impact and positively contribute to this important global issue.

At the seminar, representatives from Ölgerðin, ÞG Verk, Arion Bank, Össur and Eimskip will each give a 10-15 minute presentation on the positive actions that the companies have taken to reduce environmental impact and carbon emissions.

The presenters are the following:

Jón Ágúst Þorsteinsson, CEO and founder of Klappir  will deliver the opening.

Málfríður Guðný Kolbeinsdóttir, Expert in Reform Management and Sustainability, speaking about environmental issues at Ölgerðin.
Ölgerðin has set very ambitious goals to minimize its ecological footprint and has already reduced its carbon footprint by 54% since 2016. Málfríður will discuss what the company's improvements have entailed.

Hlédís Sigurðardóttir, Project Manager for Corporate Social Responsibility, speaking on behalf of Arion Bank.
The Bank has set ambitious environmental and climate goals and policies to support Iceland's commitments to the Paris Agreement. The Bank's greenhouse gas emissions have decreased by nearly 30% over the years 2015-2019 and has reinforced efforts to continue reducing emissions in 2020. The bank's greatest influence and opportunity, however, lies in the management of capital to support a green future. Hlédís will discuss the bank's actions and vision regarding this.

Bergur Helgason, Quality Control Manager, speaking on behalf of ÞG Verk, which has prioritized environmental issues in recent months. The waste issues have been addressed by ÞG Verk, among others, and Bergur will review the positive financial and environmental effects created by these measures.

Falasteen Abu Libdeh, Expert in Sustainability, speaking on behalf of Eimskip.
Eimskip's carbon footprint has shrunk by 14.2% since 2015, thanks to a targeted emphasis and efforts to reduce emissions. The company's goal, however, is to reduce its carbon footprint by 40% per unit transferred by 2030. Falasteen will discuss what Eimskip's reforms have entailed in the shipping industry in regards to environmental and climate issues.

Bergþóra Hlíðkvist Skúladóttir, Environmental Manager, speaking about Ossur's journey to manage environmental issues and the main challenges in reducing the environmental impact of an international manufacturing company.

Magnús Harðarson, CEO of Nasdaq Iceland, will conclude the seminar with final words.
